Exploring Croatia: The Time I Accidentally Ordered Breaded Calamari In Imotski
I spent the afternoon in Imotski with a friend.
Imotski, the town on the hill with more Mercedes cars per capita than anywhere else in the world, and famous for its Blue and Red Lakes.
Sounds cool. Doesn’t it?
But have you had the breaded calamari at Hotel Venezia?
I did. Accidentally.
I wanted them grilled.
I ordered them breaded.
I don’t care for breaded calamari.
I don’t claim to be a ‘foodie’ - hello, I can’t smell - but some restaurants/pubs do a disservice in their prep of breaded calamari. And so, years ago, I stopped ordering it.
Again, not a foodie. Just know what I don’t like. Or at least I thought I did.
Back to Hotel Venezia.
When my plate arrived, I noticed my plate had no grilled calamari. I was confused. For a second, I thought the waiter had made a mistake.
And then I realized I had made a mistake.
I got what I ordered.
So I stuck a fork in it.
I ate the breaded calamari. And you know what? It was delicious.
Good reminder.
Just because someone served you something subpar doesn’t mean everyone else will.
In four hours on the Island of Vis in Croatia, I managed to do…very little.
And it was glorious.
